Mobile users continue to push your information further out from the source.  This is great for your customers and business partners as it lets you provide information at your customers door step.  But is your information safe.

As you travel around you can rely on the security at your business partners or at the hotels you stay at.  But according to a recent article in Wired Magazine, even hotels are getting hacked and your laptop information may be at risk.

To secure your wireless devices, we recommend you take the following steps:

• Backup all of your information from your laptop on to your network server before you leave.  You don't want to lose sales reports or client lists if your laptop is lost or stolen.
• Ensure your mobile device has a power on password configured.  Use a complex password that has at least 7 characters, upper and lower case letters, along with numeric or special characters (ie. #, %)
• Encrypt  all files that have confidential information.
• Update the operating system of your computer with the latest security patches.
• Install Antivirus and Antispyware applications and make sure these applications have the latest definitions.
• Install a software based firewall on your mobile device.
